Easy Finger Food Ideas for Baby

‘Can you tell me some finger food ideas for my baby I am really nervous about introducing them’. This is one of the most frequently asked questions at my Weaning Wednesday Q&A on Instagram (10am-11am each week on stories. Introducing finger foods to your baby is key for exploring tastes and textures. I would focus less on what your baby is eating when offering finger food and more about the experience. 

You can start offering finger food at around 6 months, incorporating one finger food meal daily, progressing at your child's pace. Finger foods are great for encouraging your baby to explore and discover solids. Whether it's soft fruits like bananas or steamed veggies like carrots, providing a variety of nutritious options will help expand your baby's palate and set the stage for a lifetime of healthy eating habits.

Here are some of my favourite finger foods:

Roasted Sweet Potato and Cinnamon Fingers - Packed with nutrients, sweet potato is an ideal healthy finger food snack your little one will love. Simply bake a whole potato until tender, cut into cubes and add a sprinkle of cinnamon. Delicious and so simple to make!

 

Crispy Baked Avocado Fries - These crispy baked avocado fries make a yummy healthy alternative to chips. The soft texture of avocado makes it a suitable snack your baby would love to get their hands on. They're great for dipping in sauces such as our easy Tomato Sauce, making a tasty baby led weaning meal.

 

Eggs - Eggs are an excellent source of protein and iron and are perfectly baby friendly! Best of all, they are easy to prepare and cook for your little one. Whip up some Scrambled Eggs, Vegetable Omelette or Boiled Eggs for a delicious baby led weaning meal your little one will love. 

 

Frozen Yogurt Covered Blueberries This healthy little snack is suitable for weaning babies who are more advanced with finger foods. It's a delicious frozen snack that the children will definitely love!


Banana and Berry Muffins
