How to freeze your leftover Easter Chocolate

How to freeze your leftover Easter Chocolate

Chocolate Easter eggs are a tradition that many of us look forward to each year. But what happens when you end up with ten of them? It’s lovely to receive these seasonal treats, but let's be honest—there’s only so much chocolate one household can handle!

Over the years, I’ve gently nudged my family toward giving experiences instead of chocolate eggs. Now that my kids are older, they'd actually rather have cash in hand than another foil-wrapped bunny. Still, we often find ourselves with more chocolate than we can reasonably eat. So—what can you do with leftover Easter chocolate?

  1. Store It Smartly

Chocolate has a long shelf life, but if you'd rather not have it tempting you from the cupboard, there are a few clever ways to store it:

    • Freeze it: Lock that chocolate away in the freezer to stretch its shelf life by up to 50%. Just be sure to store it correctly!

    • Use Airtight Containers: Mummy Cooks Portion Pots are ideal for this. Our Adult Portion Pots are perfect for standard bars, and the Double Child Portion Pots hold even more.

    • Refrigerate First: Before freezing, pop the chocolate in the fridge for about an hour. This helps avoid condensation and keeps the texture intact.

    • Label & Freeze: Label with contents and date before freezing so you’ll know exactly what you've stored (and when).

Defrosting Chocolate

When you're ready to use your frozen chocolate, defrost it in the fridge overnight. This slow thawing process helps avoid that white, dusty look chocolate can get after a temperature shock. Once defrosted, your chocolate is ready for baking or snacking!

Delicious Ways to Use Leftover Chocolate

Don’t let that chocolate go to waste! Here are some easy and fun ways to give your Easter leftovers a second life:

🍫 Chocolate Spread

Whip up a homemade chocolate spread—it’s perfect on toast, drizzled over pancakes, or just spooned from the jar for a cheeky weekend treat.

🍫 Rice Crispy Treats

Use your frozen chocolate to make healthier rice crispy treats. They’re a great way to get the kids involved in the kitchen and make good use of chocolate odds and ends.
