Family Friendly Slow Cooker Recipes

Nothing beats a slow cooker family meal on chilly evenings. With two kids in the house and a busy work life, I find family friendly slow cooker recipes are great to have to hand. There are so many dishes that can be adapted for slow cookers and here are 4 slow cooker chicken dishes my kids love! 

  • Slow Cooker Chicken and Bean Chilli
  • Slow Cooker Chicken Tikka Masala
  • Slow Cooker Coconut Chicken Curry
  • Slow Cooker Chicken Cacciatore

When you use this cooking method the result is always beautifully tender meals, with ingredients that you could literally cut with a spoon - which is great for weaning baby! Long cooking hours also help the food to absorb all those delicious flavours, so you can come home to a beautifully cooked, healthy meal.

1) Slow Cooker Chicken and Bean Chilli

If you're looking for a twist on the classic Chilli Con Carne my Slow Cooker Chicken and Bean Chilli is the perfect option. It's a warm and hearty dinner the whole family will love, including your weaning baby. 2) Slow Cooker Chicken Tikka Masala

This chicken tikka masala is the one of the best weeknight meals for the whole family. Even your weaning baby can enjoy this delicious and comforting dish by adapting it or pureeing to suit your baby. It’s a brilliant meal to have tucked away in your freezer so I always double up the recipe for batch cooking. My recipe is already adapted for a slow cooker and you can find it here

3) Coconut Chicken Curry

Spice up your little one's dinners with this tasty, easy to make curry.

My daughter Ashleigh started eating this Coconut Chicken Curry at about 6 months of age and now it’s one of the reasons she loves all things spicy! It’s a deliciously healthy family meal and It's the perfect food for your weaning baby! 

Here’s how to adapt my coconut chicken curry recipe for your slow cooker

  • Low 6-8 hours / High 3-4 hours
  • Brown meat 5 minutes
  • Saute onion & garlic and spices
  • Use half the amount of coconut milk 

4) Chicken Cacciatore

This delicious Chicken Cacciatore is a perfect family friendly meal, with a rich tomato base that is easily adapted for your weaning baby. Serve it up with a side of mashed potato or rice.  Here’s how I easily adapt my chicken cacciatore recipe for my slow cooker. 

  • Low 6-8 hours / High 3-4 hours
  • Halve your stock and tinned tomatoes
