If you have been seeing the viral "2-ingredient dough" trend all over social media, this is your sign to finally try it!
As a busy parent, I am always looking for "life hacks" in the kitchen, and these bagels are exactly that. No yeast, no proving time, and no boiling water required. Just mix, shape, and air fry!
While store-bought bagels can often be quite chewy and tough for little gums, these yogurt-based bagels are incredibly soft and fluffy inside. This makes them perfect for babies starting their weaning journey or toddlers who are learning to manage different textures.
Why we love them:
-
Speed: Ready in under 15 minutes.
-
Texture: Soft and easy to chew.
-
Versatile: Perfect for lunchboxes or a quick snack on the go.
-
Protein-Packed: Thanks to the Greek yogurt!
Ingredients
-
300g Greek Yogurt (Use full-fat for babies!)
-
300g Self-Raising Flour
-
Optional: Pinch of salt (Omit this for under 1s)
-
Glaze: 1 Egg (beaten) for egg wash
-
Toppings: Sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or mixed seeds (optional)
Method
-
Preheat: Set your Air Fryer to 180°C.
-
Mix: In a large bowl, combine the Greek yogurt and self-raising flour. (If making for the whole family including adults, you can add a pinch of salt here, but leave it out for baby).
-
Knead: Mix until a dough forms. Turn it out onto a floured surface and knead briefly until it comes together. Tip: The dough can be sticky, so keep some extra flour on hand!
-
Shape: Divide the dough into equal balls. Flatten slightly and use your thumb to poke a hole in the centre to create that classic bagel shape.
-
Glaze: Brush the tops with the egg wash and sprinkle with your chosen seeds.
-
Cook: Place in the air fryer basket (ensure they aren't touching) and cook for 15 minutes until puffed up and golden brown.
-
Cool: Let them cool on a wire rack before serving.
(No Air Fryer? You can bake these in a fan oven at 180°C for about 20–25 minutes!)
How to Serve for Weaning 👶
These bagels are a fantastic vehicle for extra nutrients!
-
The "Dipper": Slice the bagel into "soldiers" (fingers). This shape is perfect for babies to grip and dunk into a homemade vegetable soup or our Mummy Cooks Tomato Sauce.
-
Toppings: Spread with hummus, cream cheese, or a thin layer of nut butter for a filling snack.
-
Self-Feeding: Because they are soft, they are great for Baby Led Weaning (BLW) as your baby can gnaw on them easily.
Storage & Freezing ❄️
Fridge: Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Freezer: These freeze brilliantly! Slice them in half before freezing so you can pop them straight into the toaster from frozen. Perfect for those busy mornings when you have nothing prepared!
