    siobhan's story

Welcome to my Mummy Cooks site. I look on with envy when I meet first-time mums about to embark on feeding their baby solid food for the first time. My own experience was such an exciting adventure. I always encourage mums at my class to think more about feeding their baby as a journey of learning to eat and less about what or how much they are eating. With this in mind I hope we are able to answer all your concerns through our advice section, as well as offer some delicious recipes that you can enjoy with your baby. I hope my approach to feeding will help you have a stress free weaning journey with your baby.

    my story

I started out my career in stockbroking and moved onto Asset Management, managing over two billion in funds. People are always surprised when I tell them this, because it is such difference to what I am doing now! But I think my expertise in research during my early career really stood to me as I started Mummy Cooks. I have recently received a certificate in SOS Training for Fussy or problem feeders.

When I was first weaning, I saw so many new mums struggling to feed their children, while my girls happily accepted a range of new foods with no fuss. At first, I thought this was associated with using shop bought food, but it wasn't always the case. Mums spending hours in the kitchen still had a fussy eater. So I enlisted the help of my sister, a Paediatric Occupational Therapist, to help me research the topic. Our findings proved the importance of the weaning stages in raising a happy and healthy eater.

Using the research, I founded Mummy Cooks in 2012.  It started as a weaning cookery school, one of the first in Ireland. As the popularity of my classes grew, I decided to start my website to reach a wider audience. The journey was not easy, there was much to learn in starting my business. When I began to offer products on my site, my reach grew wider and I was so humbled seeing how my weaning method was helping thousands of mother's across the world.

In 2013, I became feeding expert for MummyPages – Ireland’s largest parenting website. Then in 2017, I was made Baby Brand Ambassador for SuperValu Ireland. I was so proud to be part of the SuperValu ‘Lets get Ireland cooking’ campaign which fit in perfectly with the Mummy Cooks values.

In February 2018 I launched my first recipe book – Baby & Family; Cook for family, adapt for baby and I am delighted to be able to give 10% of the profits of the book to the National Maternity Foundation.   The Mummy Cooks journey has been an exciting one for me, and I cannot wait to see where it takes me next!

I have always loved an adventure and did a lot of travelling before I had children. As the kids are now getting older this sense of adventure has returned and we love getting outdoors and especailly love hiking. As the saying goes ‘its not the weather its the clothes you wear’. And I would add the snacks you take with you! I will always be found with a rucksack full of healthy snacks and a warm meal in our food flask.
